Taxpayers Should Setup an IRS Taxpayer Account ASAP

Your tax team at Eagle Eye Tax Solutions strongly recommends all taxpayers setup their Online Taxpayer Account. This will allow you to have immediate access to important information needed to file your 2021 return.

With your Taxpayer Account, you can access your individual account information including balance, payments, tax records and more. In order to get to the Taxpayer Online Account, you will need to setup an ID.me account.

If you don’t have an existing IRS username or ID.me account, have your photo identification ready. Also, use a phone, tablet or computer with a functioning camera for the id verification process. Step-by-Step instructions are below to create and access your account.

Most needed for filing your 2021 return, we will need the correct amount Advanced Child Tax Credit and Economic Impact Payments which will be available here.  This information is scheduled to be mailed, but in case you don’t receive it you’ll be able to pull it up online.  In addition of the following Information is accessible in your Taxpayer Account.

View Your Balance

  • View the amount you owe and a breakdown by tax year

View or Create Payment Plans

  • Learn about payment plan options and apply for a new payment plan

  • View details of your payment plan if you have one

Make and View Payments

  • Make a payment from your bank account or by debit/credit card

  • View 5 years of payment history and any pending or scheduled payments

Manage Communication Preferences

  • Go paperless for certain notices

  • Get email notifications for new notices

Access Tax Records

  • View key data from your most recent tax return and access additional records and transcripts

  • View your economic impact payment amounts

  • View digital copies of certain notices from the IRS

View Tax Pro Authorizations

  • View any authorization requests from tax professionals

  • Approve and electronically sign Power of Attorney and Tax Information Authorization from your tax professional

Steps to Setup Your Taxpayer Account 

1.     Visit online https://www.irs.gov/.

2.     Select sign into your account.

3.     Select log into your online account.

4.     Click on Id.Me and create an account.

5.     Enter email address and telephone number.

6.     Check your cell phone for the Id.Me security code and enter in space provided.

7.     Click on upload driver’s license or passport.

8.     Receive a link on your cell phone to upload a picture of your id.

9.     Click on link.

10.  You will be asked if you control the email address you registered with.

11.  Go to email you provided and click on confirm email.

12.  Take a photo of your id. It is best to take a photo instead of uploading a previous photo.

13.  Once the front of your id is clear and accepted click submit.

14.  Follow the same procedure for the back of your id and click continue.

15.  You will receive a message stating the ID is being checked for authenticity.

16.  Id.Me will then verify your identity.

17.  Grant permission to use webcam on your device.

18.  Click “scan my face” to begin the video selfie.

19.  You will then receive a message that reads “Liveness direction will commence with a series of colorful flashing lights.”

20.  Your results will then be displayed.

21.  Verify identity.

22.  Scan face.

23.  Images submitted.

24.  Return to the original open browser to continue.

25.  Enter date of birth in 01/01/1970 format.

26.  Enter social security number.

27.  Is your information displayed correctly? Verify and click yes.

28.  Authorize the Internal Revenue Service and click allow.

29.  At this point, you should be in your private portal and you will be able to view your account.
